CRIMINAL DEFENSE

My very first jury trial was an aggravated assault case. The Judge called me at 8:15 one morning and appointed me to represent the Defendant, and then told me to be ready to pick a jury and go to trial at 9:00 that same morning. He refused any idea of a continuance.

We picked the jury and started the trial at about 11:00 am. I was literally hearing the evidence for the first time just as the jury was. After two days of testimony and evidence, l told the jury in my closing argument that the case was really none of our business, and that it was between two men over a woman. They agreed and found my client not guilty.

It's all about being on the same page as the jury and asking them to do what is right. Since that trial, I have had four more not guilty criminal jury verdicts, for a total of five out of six in criminal jury trials.

Contrary to what most people believe, there just aren't many criminal jury trials. Most criminal cases end up in some type of agreed resolution. However, the best way to handle a criminal case is to be fully prepared to go to trial, and then explore options.

Criminal Defense Attorney

The principle of freedom which Americans greatly treasure is confirmed by the United States' commitment to presuming the accused innocent until proven guilty in a criminal trial. The presumption of innocence requires the prosecution to prove its case against the defendant beyond a reasonable doubt before they are pronounced guilty.

Under the US constitution, everyone accused of a crime has the right to a lawyer's defense. Criminal defense lawyers represent defendants in and out of court. While they attempt to settle the case outside of court, they have go to trial occasionally.

Why choose Alan?

There's no criminal defense lawyer that can guarantee you a favorable plea or an acquittal – it's actually unethical to give such guarantees. Prosecuting attorneys generally have a great advantage over defendants – that's just the nature of the legal system. Many of those accused of crimes don't have sufficient resources to retain competent legal representation – and because district attorneys possess substantial leverage over defendants, many defendants end up negotiating away their rights and signing plea bargains that can haunt them for years.
